Leaves and needles that clog local gutters
Trees common across this region drop significant debris into gutters, though the exact foliage mix differs across the state. Broadleaf species such as live oak, water oak, sweetgum, red maple, and southern magnolia grow heavily alongside conifers like loblolly pine, longleaf pine, and slash pine. Pine needles fall into channels all year long, forming dense mats that trap smaller particles. In spring, a heavy blanket of yellow pollen coats roof surfaces and washes into narrow drains. Live oak leaf drop and fallen acorns create heavy clutter in early seasons, while sweetgum balls drop rigid, spiky pods into the troughs. Broadleaf leaf drop usually peaks in late October, blocking normal water drainage.
