Common Gutter Debris and Drainage Conditions
Roof gutters and downspout openings collect a mix of organic matter and roof runoff debris over time. Depending on nearby vegetation, open gutter channels may trap dry leaves, needles, seed pods, twigs, and decomposing organic silt. In addition, mineral granules shedding from roof shingles can collect in the bottom of troughs, forming heavy sediment that blocks regular water flow. When rainwater cannot reach the downspout drop outlets freely, water pools along the roofline, adding substantial weight to fasteners and hangers.
