When Sylvester gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop material into Sylvester gutters throughout every season. Loblolly pine, longleaf pine, and slash pine shed pine needles continuously, while broadleaf live oak, water oak, sweetgum, red maple, and southern magnolia drop sweetgum balls, acorns, and broad leaves. In spring, yellow pollen coats roof surfaces and washes down into downspout outlets, forming a sticky paste. Leaf drop usually peaks in early November, filling channels right before fall rains. Freezing nights are rare and ice dams are not an issue, but heavy southern rain requires clear paths. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, in spring and fall, to keep water flowing.
