When Grand Island gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including broadleaf bur oak, silver maple, cottonwood, green ash, hackberry, eastern red cedar, and ponderosa pine, shed constantly onto nearby roofs. Spring brings windblown cottonwood fluff that quickly mats inside channels, while ash seeds and windblown dust accumulate during dry summer spells. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, packing channels right before winter arrives. Freezing nights, winter snow, and ice dams in gutters create severe backing problems if trapped water cannot drain down the downspout system freely. We recommend seasonal gutter cleaning at least twice a year, during spring and fall, to keep drainage clear before frozen winter weather sets in across Nebraska.
