When Foley gutters fill up
In Foley, freezing nights are rare, snow is rare, and ice dams in gutters are not an issue. However, heavy rains occur throughout the year. Regional trees like broadleaf white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and red maple shed heavy leaf mass during fall, while loblolly pine and eastern red cedar drop pine needles continuously. Spring pollen coats roof planes and combines with pine needles to clog outlets. Because organic matter accumulates in early spring and late fall, we recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall. Keeping channels open prevents rain overflow during sudden coastal storms and keeps heavy pine needles from forming tight plugs inside the system.
