When Dubuque gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, such as bur oak, silver maple, cottonwood, green ash, hackberry, eastern red cedar, and ponderosa pine, drop various materials year-round. Cottonwood fluff drifting in spring combines with ash seeds and windblown dust to clog channels. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, filling trough systems right before cold weather arrives. Dubuque experiences freezing nights, snow, and ice dams in gutters during winter. Trapped water freezes, pushing channels away from fascia and causing winter roof leaks. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to prevent ice formation and ensure smooth water flow before severe Iowa freezes begin.
