When Calera gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including broadleaf white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, red maple, loblolly pine, and eastern red cedar, throw constant organic material onto Calera rooflines. In spring, oak pollen and sweetgum pods land in channels, while fall brings heavy leaf drop that usually peaks in early November. Loblolly pine needles drop year-round, weaving dense mats that block the entrance to every downspout. Although snow is rare in Alabama and ice dams in gutters are not an issue here, freezing nights still happen during winter. Water trapped behind leaves can freeze along fascia lines. We recommend a complete gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall.
