When Birmingham gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop debris into gutter systems throughout the year. Broadleaf white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and red maple drop heavy fall leaves and acorns, while conifers like loblolly pine and eastern red cedar shed fine pine needles and slender twigs. Spring brings heavy tree pollen that settles into a thick paste. Leaf drop usually peaks in early November, clogging channels right before winter. Freezing nights happen occasionally, though snow is rare and ice dams in gutters are not an issue. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to protect your roofline and maintain open downspouts.
