When Atchison gutters fill up
Local foliage brings seasonal challenges to gutter performance across Atchison. Trees common in the region, such as broadleaf bur oak, silver maple, cottonwood, green ash, hackberry, eastern red cedar, and ponderosa pine, drop heavy organic matter throughout the year. Spring winds blow soft cottonwood fluff and windblown grit into roof channels, while ash seeds fall in summer. Fall leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling roof systems with dry foliage. In winter, freezing nights bring snow and ice, creating ice dams inside trapped debris that back water up under the roof tiles. We recommend scheduling gutter cleaning at least twice a year, in spring and fall, to keep channels completely clear.
