When Algona gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop a steady stream of debris into Algona roof troughs throughout the year. In spring, cottonwood fluff settles inside channels, while broadleaf bur oak, silver maple, green ash, and hackberry drop leaves and ash seeds through summer. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, clogging every open gutter. Dust and grit from farm winds also settle in the channels. During winter, freezing nights bring heavy snow, and ice dams in gutters become a real seasonal threat if water cannot drain. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep channels flowing before northern Iowa frost arrives.
