When Yorktown gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region include red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine. In spring, oak catkins drop directly onto roof slopes and wash down into each residential gutter system. Come fall, red maple and white oak shed leaves, while sweetgum trees drop spiky sweetgum balls alongside acorns and pine needles. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling roof gutters quickly. During winter, freezing nights happen and snow is likely across Yorktown, making standing water in gutter lines dangerous if left trapped. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, in spring and fall, to keep drainage clear before cold weather sets in.
