When York gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy materials throughout the year. Spring brings maple seed wings that lodge in downspout openings, while fall brings broadleaf foliage and acorns. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling roof gutters right before cold weather arrives. Winter brings freezing nights and snow to York, creating ice dams when trapped water freezes inside clogged gutters. Frozen water expands, opening seams and damaging roof edges. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to clear out organic material and prepare home drainage systems for freezing winter storms.
