When Wilmington gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, such as broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop steady debris onto residential roofs. Maple seed wings fall during late spring, while acorns, heavy leaves, and needles drop later in the year. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October. Freezing nights happen regularly in Wilmington, and ice dams in gutters are a real winter problem when trapped water freezes hard. Snow is likely throughout winter, putting extra weight on clogged channels. We recommend a full gutter cleaning at least twice a year, during spring and fall, to protect every property.
