Understanding Clog Conditions and Runoff Behavior
Water issues usually stem from one of two drainage problems along the roofline. Recognizing the difference helps ensure the proposed work matches the condition of your home:
- An outlet blockage occurs when leaves, seedpods, or silt lodge directly over the downspout opening, causing water to back up rapidly even if the rest of the channel is relatively clear.
- Overflow along an entire run happens when accumulated debris fills the channel, slowing water flow so that rainfall spills over the outer edge before reaching the downspout.
- Downspout elbow obstructions trap material inside the bends, preventing proper drainage to ground level.
