When Whitehall gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, including sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy materials into local channels. Maple seed wings fall during late spring, while acorns, pine needles, and heavy leaves gather through the fall months, with leaf drop usually peaking in mid October. Cold winter temperatures bring freezing nights, snow, and ice dams that block water inside trapped channels. Blocked winter flow can push melting snow up under roof shingles. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to clear seasonal debris and prevent ice from backing up along your roof edges.
