When Wharton gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including broadleaf red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, drop heavy debris into Wharton gutters. In spring, oak catkins settle in the channels, while spiky sweetgum balls, acorns, and broad leaves fill them later. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, quickly choking off proper drainage. During New Jersey winters, freezing nights are normal, making ice dams in gutters a real threat if water sits trapped by leaves. To protect your property, we recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, clearing downspouts before freezing weather sets in.
