Conditions That Lead to Blocked Gutters
Gutters and downspouts accumulate debris over time based on the immediate surroundings of the building. When organic material and windblown sediment gather in the channels, water flow slows down and eventually stops. Several conditions contribute to these blockages:
- Overhanging branches dropping leaves, twigs, seeds, and organic matter directly onto roof surfaces.
- Accumulated grit washing down from aging shingles into the gutter troughs during heavy rainfall.
- Windblown dust, plant seedlings, and small debris settling in low-slope gutter runs.
- Nesting materials or small pests creating obstructions at downspout openings.
