Conditions That Lead to Gutter Clogs
Drainage troughs collect seasonal organic matter and windblown material over time. How quickly obstructions build depends entirely on the unique surroundings of the individual parcel:
- Overhanging branches dropping leaves, small twigs, and seed pods directly into the channel.
- Wind-drifted silt, broken stems, and roof grit accumulating along low-pitch gutters.
- Nesting materials or pests creating localized dams at critical outlets.
- Standing water caused by misaligned gutter slope, which traps decaying debris.
