When West Chester gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop debris across West Chester roof lines through every season. Broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, and American elm drop leaves and heavy acorns, while maple seed wings fill gutters during spring. Conifers like white pine and spruce drop sharp needles that pack down inside downspouts. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, clogging channels right before winter sets in. Freezing nights cause standing water to freeze solid, and ice dams in gutters are a real winter problem that damages roof shingles. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep water moving freely before winter weather arrives.
