When Watchung gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, such as red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, drop a steady stream of debris over Watchung properties. Oak catkins fill the gutter channels during spring, while acorns and spiky sweetgum balls drop later in the year. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling every downspout with heavy foliage before winter arrives. Freezing nights happen and snow is likely throughout New Jersey winters, though ice dams in gutters are not an issue here. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep channels clear before freezing weather sets in and to clear out spring blooms.
