When Walnut gutters fill up
Trees common across this part of the country, such as sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop debris throughout the year. Maple seed wings fall in spring, pine needles drop continuously, and acorns with fallen leaves cap off the fall months. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling roof channels right before cold weather arrives. In Walnut, freezing nights happen, and clogged water leads to ice dams in gutters during winter, pushing ice under roof shingles. Snow is likely, adding heavy weight to packed debris. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to maintain clear drainage channels.
