When Valley City gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, such as bur oak, silver maple, cottonwood, green ash, hackberry, eastern red cedar, and ponderosa pine, drop material throughout the year. Spring brings cottonwood fluff, ash seeds, and dirt blown by prairie winds. Leaf drop usually peaks in late September, filling channels right before cold weather sets in. Freezing nights create ice dams when clogged channels hold water, forcing trapped ice under shingles during harsh North Dakota winters. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to prevent severe roof damage. A proper seasonal schedule clears fall leaves before ice forms and removes spring debris before summer rains begin.
