When Upper St. Clair gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop leaves, acorns, spiky sweetgum balls, and oak catkins that land directly on upper rooflines. Broadleaf red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, and sweetgum produce continuous heavy dropped debris that traps moisture inside the gutter trough. Conifers like eastern white pine shed needles that mat down tight against downspout outlets. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, right before freezing nights arrive. Winter brings severe snow and ice dams in gutters when trapped water freezes solid. We strongly recommend comprehensive gutter cleaning at least twice a year, during early spring and late fall, to protect your house.
