Distinguishing Gutter Run Overflow from Outlet Blockages
Water spilling over a gutter edge does not always indicate the entire trough is full of debris. If water pools and cascades directly over a downspout drop, an outlet blockage is often restricting water from entering the vertical pipe. Conversely, if runoff spills evenly over the midpoint of a gutter run while the outlets remain clear, the gutter pitch may have shifted, or heavy accumulation along the channel floor may be holding water back. Noting where water escapes helps define the necessary cleaning scope.
