When Sumpter gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop heavy foliage over local roofs throughout the changing year. Broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, and American elm drop fallen leaves, maple seed wings, and acorns, while white pine and spruce drop sticky pine needles. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, filling channels right before cold weather arrives. Freezing nights happen regularly in Michigan, and trapped water quickly leads to heavy ice dams in gutters during winter months. Snow is likely, placing immense weight on clogged channels. We recommend clearing your gutter system at least twice a year, spring and fall, to protect against freeze damage.
