When St. Louis gutters fill up
Several tree species are common in the region around St. Louis, including broadleaf bur oak, silver maple, cottonwood, green ash, and hackberry, alongside conifers like eastern red cedar and ponderosa pine. In spring, lightweight cottonwood fluff settles into every channel alongside ash seeds. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling roof gutters with heavy foliage before winter arrives. Freezing nights happen and snow is likely, though ice dams in gutters are not an issue here. Grit and dust after wind also collect inside open channels. We recommend a complete gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to protect your St. Louis home during heavy weather.
