When St. Johns gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, such as broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy materials into roof channels throughout the year. Fallen leaves, maple seed wings, acorns, and needle clusters quickly choke every downspout. In St. Johns, leaf drop usually peaks in early October, filling open channels right before freezing weather begins. Freezing nights cause ice dams in gutters, which are a real winter problem across Michigan when trapped meltwater expands. To protect your property, we recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, clearing away maple seeds in late spring and heavy foliage before winter.
