When St. James gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop debris directly into residential gutter systems across St. James. Broadleaf red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, and sweetgum shed oak catkins in the spring, while spiky sweetgum balls, acorns, and pine needles from eastern white pine fall during summer and fall. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling roof troughs before cold weather arrives. Winter brings freezing nights and snow is likely across New York, though ice dams in gutters are not an issue here. Still, frozen trapped water adds dangerous weight. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to protect the whole gutter setup.
