Conditions That Lead to Clogged Gutters
Accumulation inside gutters and downspouts typically develops when organic matter and fine grit settle into the system and restrict water movement:
- Decaying leaves, needles, twigs, and seed pods falling from nearby tree canopies onto the roof surface.
- Granules shed from aging roof shingles that collect along low-slope trough sections.
- Debris catching at the top elbow or lower outlet of a downspout, creating standing water.
- Windblown dust and silt compacting into damp sludge inside shaded gutter runs.
