Debris and Drainage Conditions
Gutters typically collect organic matter such as leaves, twigs, seeds, and windblown grit over time. When debris accumulates, it alters how water travels along the roofline:
- Outlet blockages form directly over the downspout drop, stopping water from exiting even if the rest of the trough contains minimal debris.
- Channel blockages build up along the horizontal run, causing standing water or spilling over the outer rim mid-span.
- Matted debris traps moisture in the system, adding weight to the fasteners and creating slow, persistent leaks.
