When South Hill gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, drop a variety of material onto South Hill roofs. Spring brings oak catkins that clump inside gutters, while broadleaf leaves, acorns, and spiky sweetgum balls collect as leaf drop usually peaks in early October. Freezing nights happen regularly in New York, and winter snow often causes ice dams in gutters clogged with soggy debris. Trapped water freezes, swells, and forces metal channels outward. To avoid heavy ice blockages and overflow, we recommend scheduling a gutter cleaning service at least twice a year, during the spring and fall seasons.
