When South Elgin gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy debris into South Elgin gutters. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, filling channel runs with broad leaves, acorns, maple seed wings, and pine needles. Winter brings freezing nights and heavy snow, which creates severe ice dams in gutters when trapped water cannot drain properly. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep channels wide open before sub-zero temperatures arrive in Illinois. A late fall cleaning prevents frozen blockages, while spring work clears out blown winter twigs and seed pods before heavy rains hit.
