When Somerset gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, such as red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, drop a variety of heavy materials into roof channels. Spring bring oak catkins, while sweetgum balls, acorns, and broad leaves accumulate steadily, usually peaking in mid October. Cold weather brings freezing nights, heavy snow, and the threat of ice dams in gutters when channels remain blocked during early winter storms. Trapped water freezes solid, pulling metal channels away from the home. We recommend schedule gutter cleaning at least twice a year, during spring and fall, to protect the whole structure against seasonal foliage and severe cold weather challenges.
