When Silver Spring gutters fill up
Local trees common in the region, including broadleaf red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, continuously shed material onto roof surfaces. Spring brings sticky oak catkins into roof channels, followed by heavy fall leaves, acorns, and spiky sweetgum balls. Winter introduces freezing nights and likely snow fall across Pennsylvania, though ice dams in gutters are not an issue here. Still, trapped winter moisture can freeze inside full channels and bend metallic hardware. We recommend scheduling gutter cleaning at least twice a year, once during spring and again in fall, to clear organic matter before heavy seasonal precipitation arrives.
