When Shamokin gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region include red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine. In spring, oak catkins drop directly onto roof valleys and fall into gutters. During fall, when leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, fallen leaves, acorns, and spiky sweetgum balls quickly accumulate. Winter brings freezing nights and snow, creating ice dams in gutters that hold heavy ice against the roof line. We recommend residential gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep drainage clear before freezing temperatures arrive and after spring growth finishes dropping.
