When Rutland gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy debris into open gutters. Maple seed wings fall in spring, while acorns, leaves, and pine needles drop in fall. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October across Rutland. In winter, freezing nights bring ice dams when clogged channels hold melting snow that freezes solid along the roof edge. Trapped ice pushes water under roof shingles and pulls channels off the fascia. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep channels clear before severe freeze cycles begin.
