When Roscoe gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy amounts of material onto local roofs. In spring, maple seed wings drop into the channels, while acorns, leaves, and pine needles build up late in the year. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October across northern Illinois. During cold winter months, freezing nights arrive, and ice dams in gutters become a serious threat if trapped water cannot drain. We recommend scheduling gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to clear out debris before winter ice forms.
