When Roma gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, such as broadleaf live oak, pecan, cedar elm, crape myrtle, post oak, loblolly pine, and ashe juniper, drop various materials throughout the year. Live oak leaves drop in spring rather than fall, while oak catkins and pecan shells fill channels in other months. Ashe juniper pollen settles into systems during winter months. Freezing nights are rare here, so ice dams in gutters do not pose an issue. Because debris collects in different seasons, we recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall. Keeping a clear path for rainwater stops heavy storms from pushing organic matter deep into downspouts during sudden downpours.
