When Riverdale gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, such as sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy materials into roof channels. Maple seed wings fall in spring, while acorns, pine needles, and broadleaf foliage drop in fall, with leaf drop usually peaking in mid October. In Illinois winters, freezing nights happen, creating ice dams in gutters when trapped water freezes near the roofline. Snow is likely, adding weight to trapped water buildup. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep channels clear of debris before winter freezes arrive and before heavy spring rains fall in Riverdale.
