When Pocono gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, such as red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, constantly shed heavy material onto house roofs. Oak catkins fill gutter lines each spring, followed by acorns, sweetgum balls, and pine needles during summer. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, loading gutter systems right before winter. Freezing nights happen frequently in Pocono, creating ice dams inside clogged gutters when standing runoff freezes hard. Trapped ice expands, opening seams and twisting metals. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, during spring and fall, to keep drainage paths clear through frozen weather.
