When Plato gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy organic waste into gutters. Maple seed wings fall during spring, followed by acorns, pine needles, and dense broadleaf fall foliage. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, filling channels right before cold weather arrives. Freezing nights happen regularly, turning trapped water into solid ice that causes winter ice dams. Heavy winter ice stresses brackets and causes structural roof leaks. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep drainage paths clear throughout the year.
