When Oneonta gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, send endless debris into local channels. In spring, oak catkins settle into every corner, followed by falling acorns and spiky sweetgum balls later in the year. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, filling channels right before freezing weather arrives. Freezing nights, heavy snow, and ice dams in gutters make clear channels critical for every property owner. When water freezes inside a clogged gutter system, expanding ice damages seams and pulls channels away from the roof. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to maintain clear drainage.
