When Olmsted gutters fill up
In the local climate, freezing nights happen frequently throughout winter, and heavy snow creates ice dams in gutters crammed with dark debris. Broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce trees are common in the region. These trees drop fallen leaves, maple seed wings, acorns, and pine needles that build up along roof channels. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, making high fall maintenance necessary before winter freezes hit. Spring brings heavy downpours and spinning maple seed pods that clog outlets. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to protect your house from backed-up water.
