Recognizing Outlet Clogs Versus Gutter Run Overflow
Two debris-related patterns to report are described below. Similar overflow can also arise from slope, joint or capacity problems, so an observation alone does not establish the cause:
- Outlet blockage: Water pools directly above the downspout drop while debris dams the opening, causing heavy spilling at the end of the run.
- Channel overflow: Soil, twigs, or standing debris fill the length of the channel, causing water to spill over the front lip before reaching the outlet.
