When North Bellport gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, such as broadleaf red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, drop broad leaves, heavy acorns, spiky sweetgum balls, and spring oak catkins onto nearby roof slopes. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, sending heavy debris into gutter troughs just as cooler weather arrives. Freezing nights happen regularly in New York, and snow is likely during cold winter months, though ice dams in gutters are not an issue here. Trapped water can still freeze, expand, and pull sagging hardware away from fascia boards. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep channels open.
