When New Paltz gutters fill up
Trees common in this region drop distinct material into gutters through changing seasons. White oak catkins fall in spring, followed by broadleaf red maple seeds, tulip poplar debris, hickory foliage, and spiky sweetgum balls. Eastern white pine needles fall steadily. Broadleaf leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling upper gutters right before winter cold arrives. Freezing nights cause snow and trapped water to form ice dams inside packed gutters, forcing moisture into roof lines. Fall debris holds water against fascia boards during sudden late fall cold snaps. We recommend scheduling a gutter cleaning at least twice a year, during spring and fall, to protect against freeze damage and preserve original water management systems.
