When Munster gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, such as sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop debris throughout the year. In Munster Indiana, fall leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling every gutter with broad leaves, heavy acorns, and pine needles. Spring brings maple seed wings that quickly clog any downspout. Winter brings freezing nights where trapped moisture turns into ice dams, lifting roof edge shingles and warping gutter hangers. We recommend cleaning gutters at least twice a year, spring and fall, to prevent winter freezing hazards and clear away spring pollen and seeds before severe summer storms roll through Lake County.
