When Munhall gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, such as red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, drop heavy material into gutter channels. Oak catkins arrive in spring, while leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling system lines with acorns and sweetgum balls. Winter brings freezing nights and snow, creating ice dams in gutters when trapped water freezes. Blocked downspouts aggravate ice buildup, pushing heavy ice beneath roof shingles. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep gutter systems open before winter freezes arrive and after spring growth releases debris onto the roof.
