When Mount Pleasant gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop debris into gutter systems throughout every month. Loblolly pine, longleaf pine, and slash pine drop dense pine needles all year. In spring, broadleaf live oak, water oak, sweetgum, red maple, and southern magnolia drop thick coatings of yellow pollen. Live oaks shed old leaves during spring growth, while sweetgum balls and acorns fall later in the season. Broadleaf leaf drop usually peaks in early November. Freezing nights are rare, so ice dams do not form inside gutters, but year-round foliage creates constant blockages. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep channels open through every seasonal foliage shift in South Carolina.
