When Macedonia gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy materials into roof channels throughout the year. Broadleaf leaves, maple seed wings, acorns, and pine needles accumulate fast, with leaf drop usually peaking in mid October. In Macedonia, freezing nights happen, and ice dams in gutters are a real winter problem when snow is likely. Heavy ice forms when trapped water freezes solid, pulling channels away from the roofline. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, in spring and fall, to remove fresh spring seeds and clear out packed fall foliage before the cold weather sets in.
